NM Couplings for Brazil & Argentina

Procurement, drawing and machine-integration guidance for Brazil, Argentina.

Brazil

Use Portuguese documentation when required and keep decimal notation and units unambiguous. Brazil's Ministry of Labour and Employment publishes NR-12 for machinery and equipment safety. The machine integrator and employer should verify safeguards, access and procedures for the complete installation; the coupling supplier should provide envelope and interface data that supports that work.

Argentina

Use Spanish order descriptions and controlled metric drawings. Argentina's updated Decree 351/1979 regulates occupational hygiene and safety and points to applicable annexes and sector exceptions. Confirm the installation's current legal requirements locally and design guarding and isolation around the complete power-transmission system.

Portuguese and Spanish documentation

Brazilian and Argentine projects benefit from a controlled bilingual handoff. Use Portuguese for Brazil and Spanish for Argentina where requested, while preserving the original model codes, units and numerical values. State nominal torque in N·m, speed in rpm and dimensions in millimetres. Avoid comma-versus-point ambiguity by showing a unit with every tolerance and keeping the approved table as the numerical master.

The bore-and-keyway drawing is central to a successful import. Provide driving and driven shaft diameters separately, named fit or explicit tolerance, keyway dimensions, engagement length and centre gap. Do not release an order from a photograph or an NM family name. For a replacement, measure outside diameter, hub length and both shafts, then compare every value with the selected catalogue row.

Machinery safety context

Brazil's NR-12 addresses machinery and equipment safety, while Argentina's Decree 351/1979 provides occupational hygiene and safety rules with sector-specific considerations. The current requirements for a particular workplace must be confirmed locally. From a coupling procurement perspective, give the integrator the rotating envelope, interface drawing, inspection needs and any known residual risks. The complete machine guard, isolation method, instructions and employer procedures remain outside a coupling-only approval.

Climate, process and logistics

High ambient temperature, humidity, coastal salt, sugar or grain dust, fertilizer, washdown and outdoor sunlight can affect the drive environment. The catalogue identifies an NBR oil-resistant element but does not publish a temperature or universal chemical rating. Describe the actual fluid and exposure instead of relying on a generic elastomer description. Include destination, port or inland delivery point, quantity, spares, packing and documentation language in the RFQ.

For commissioning, verify shaft alignment after the base and connected piping are secured. Check S, guard clearance and abnormal vibration. Retain photographs, alignment values and the approved drawing with the maintenance record. This evidence shortens later troubleshooting and avoids replacing a damaged element without correcting pipe strain, bearing wear or overload.

Practical inquiry example

A useful South American inquiry could specify an 11 kW, 1,750 rpm motor driving a sugar-process conveyor, loaded starts, two reversals per shift, 42 mm driver shaft, 48 mm driven shaft, outdoor covered installation, 5–45 °C ambient, sugar dust and periodic washdown. Add Portuguese or Spanish drawings, destination, quantity and spare requirement. The supplier can then review steady and peak torque, compare the bores with d max, evaluate the disclosed environment and prepare an approval drawing. Without the start condition and washdown details, a model chosen only from motor power could be misleading.

Approval points for Brazilian and Argentine orders

For sugar, grain, mining, wastewater and agricultural applications, a clean indoor service assumption is unsafe. Describe whether contamination is airborne, splashed or continuous and whether the guard traps debris or heat. The supplier can then identify missing evidence before promising suitability.

For repeat imports, keep the approved drawing number on the purchase order and packaging. If the customer later asks only for an “NM112 replacement,” retrieve the controlled two-bore record instead of starting from the family name. That practice reduces customs-description inconsistencies and field fit problems at the same time.

Where inland delivery follows a sea shipment, specify corrosion protection and moisture-resistant packing for the full route. Photograph labels before dispatch and require the receiving team to compare the package marking with the approved bore drawing before installation.

What to put in an international RFQ

Provide model if known, driver power and speed, continuous and peak torque, both shaft drawings, keyway standard, alignment, temperature, chemical or outdoor exposure, quantity, destination, desired Incoterm, documentation language and any inspection requirement. State whether the finished machine or only a replacement component is being procured.
