Germany
Use controlled metric drawings and identify any DIN or ISO keyway requirement explicitly. Germany sits within the EU machinery framework; a component quotation must not be confused with conformity of the finished machine. Provide technical data that supports the machine builder's risk assessment, guard design and technical file.
United Kingdom
For Great Britain, HSE states that new machinery must carry the relevant marking, declaration and English instructions. An NM coupling supplied as a component does not establish machine conformity. Include English technical documentation, the rotating envelope, residual interface risks and maintenance access information for the machine builder.
France
French-language technical notes may be needed for installation and workplace use. Keep catalogue values unchanged when translating units or headings. Italy
Italian customers commonly expect precise metric machining data and approved drawings. Identify keyway and tolerance standards rather than assuming them. The EU regulatory framework applies at the machinery or related-product level according to scope; INAIL provides national prevention resources for workplace implementation.
Spain
Provide Spanish installation and safety information when specified, along with the exact coupling envelope and gap. INSST publishes machinery-guard resources. The integrator should verify the complete machine against applicable requirements and maintain the technical documentation.
EU transition and Great Britain
For Germany, France, Italy and Spain, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 applies from 14 January 2027 and replaces Directive 2006/42/EC from that date. Scope and obligations depend on the product and supply arrangement. The NM coupling page therefore does not claim CE conformity of a customer's machine. It supplies component data that can support the machine builder's risk assessment, guard design, technical documentation and instructions.
Great Britain has its own machinery regime. HSE currently states that new machinery placed on the market in Great Britain must use the relevant UKCA or CE marking route, include a declaration and provide English instructions. Again, a coupling component does not establish conformity of the assembled drive. The purchaser should define whether the order is a spare component, an incorporated assembly or part of a new machine project.
Drawing and language discipline
Use one master metric drawing with controlled translations for German, French, Italian, Spanish or English notes. Model codes and values must not change between language versions. Identify bore and keyway standards explicitly; do not assume that every European buyer uses the same national legacy standard. If a drawing cites a standard, include its edition or the customer's controlled specification where required.
Document the rotating envelope D, hub length L and centre separation S so the machine designer can arrange a guard and maintenance access. If a fastener or key projects beyond the expected envelope, resolve it on the order drawing. For replacement programs, compare the installed unit with the catalogue table and measure both shafts before approving a drop-in claim.
Procurement and technical file support
State the required declaration, material record, inspection report, marking and language before quotation. The supplied source does not prove a certificate or hub material, so those items remain unknown until agreed. Keep the final drawing, inspection evidence and installation record in the machine documentation. For duty selection, provide continuous and peak torque, speed range, start-stop pattern, temperature and chemical exposure. The same evidence improves both purchasing and later maintenance.

A European machine builder might specify a 4 kW motor at 1,470 rpm, a guarded coolant pump, 24 mm and 25 mm keyed shafts, 15–40 °C ambient, fifty production sets, three spares, English plus German instructions and a dimensional inspection report. The catalogue example suggests NM67-24/25 as a marking format, but torque, speed and the full drawing must still be checked. The quotation should distinguish component documentation from the declaration for the finished machine, identify the 2027 project timing and list every agreed record rather than implying blanket conformity.

When a machine builder changes a bore, key or guard after approval, process the change through drawing revision control. The coupling may remain the same family while the manufacturing configuration and machine risk assessment change. Retaining obsolete drawings beside the machine creates avoidable replacement errors.
What to put in an international RFQ
Provide model if known, driver power and speed, continuous and peak torque, both shaft drawings, keyway standard, alignment, temperature, chemical or outdoor exposure, quantity, destination, desired Incoterm, documentation language and any inspection requirement. State whether the finished machine or only a replacement component is being procured.
