Khớp nối trục mềm NM là một chốt hình trụ làm bằng một số vật liệu phi kim loại, được đặt giữa 2 mặt của khớp nối và bề mặt bên trong của vòng ngoài, và là một thiết bị truyền mô-men xoắn thông qua chốt trụ để thực hiện kết nối giữa 2 nửa khớp nối.
Khớp nối trục mềm NM giữa các thanh trượt được làm bằng vải bakelite hoặc polyurethane, thích hợp cho tốc độ cao, mô-men xoắn lớn, không gây va đập mạnh giữa hai điểm kết nối. Mô-men xoắn cho phép tối đa là 850N·m, và đường kính trục tối đa là 50mm.
