De NM flexibele askoppeling bestaat uit een cilindrische pen, gemaakt van een niet-metallisch materiaal, die tussen de twee zijden van de koppeling en het binnenoppervlak van de buitenring is geplaatst. Het is tevens een mechanisme dat het koppel via de kolompen overbrengt om de verbinding tussen de twee koppelingshelften te realiseren.
De NM flexibele askoppeling met schuifstuk van bakelietdoek of polyurethaan is geschikt voor hoge snelheden en grote koppels, en voorkomt scherpe schokken tussen de twee verbindingen. Het maximaal toelaatbare koppel bedraagt 850 Nm en de maximale asdiameter is 50 mm.
