How to Select an NM Coupling

A buyer-focused NM coupling selection sequence using duty, speed and both shaft interfaces.

NM flexible coupling product

Start with the drive duty, not the outside diameter. The coupling has to accept the torque and speed while also fitting both shafts. A model that fits the bore but is wrong for the duty is not a sound selection; neither is a model with enough torque capacity but no room for the required finished bore.

A practical sequence

1. Define the duty

Identify the driver, driven equipment, operating speed and torque or motor data.

2. Check both shafts

Confirm driver and driven shaft diameters, keyways and available space.

3. Narrow the NM size

Use the reference range to identify candidate models.

4. Confirm the order configuration

Finalize bores, keyways, quantity and any special process on the order drawing.

Use the table to narrow the NM size. Finished bores, keyways and application duty are confirmed for the ordered configuration.

Do not select from one number alone

Motor power is useful when torque is not supplied, but it is not the whole duty. Starts, shock, reversals and the driven machine can change the selection. Likewise, the bore range is a model-matching reference; the finished bore still has to be specified for each hub.
