What Is an NM Coupling?

An NM coupling is a flexible shaft coupling built around two hubs and a separate resilient element. The hubs connect the driver and driven shafts; the element sits between their driving features and provides the compliant interface. That simple description matters because it tells you what must be matched during replacement: coupling size, both bores, the flexible element and the operating duty.

Why buyers use the NM layout

The layout is compact, easy to understand and practical for general industrial drives. The flexible element can isolate the metal hubs from direct drive contact during normal operation and gives the connection a degree of compliance. It does not remove the need for alignment, nor does it make every NM size suitable for every motor.
